About

Experience

I have 15 years of extensive NHS experience of understanding and helping individuals manage their emotional distress, challenging life events, and complex psychological issues. I have developed a depth of knowledge and a passion to help and support people with mental health difficulties.

I do not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ approach and view each individual as an expert of their own experiences. I approach each session with genuine care, warmth and curiosity and ensure that therapy is a collaborative process.

Concepts and Stigmas

I draw from various conceptual models and therapeutic approaches and explore both present and past difficulties. I usually start by helping people to learn ways of improving their lives in the ‘here and now’. This is followed by helping people connect their current problems to their past.

There is a lot of stigma about mental health problems; many people are ashamed, afraid and confused. The resulting effect is that people often feel guilty, angry and ultimately worsen and prolong the problem by staying silent. I have worked with people from every walk of life and I have made it my mission to improve lives as much as I can and hope I can help you too.

Diversity

I work with people from every background and believe in equality of services for all aspects of diversity - age, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, disability and background. I have a passion for improving the accessibility and cultural relevance of psychological therapies within the Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) community and I am trained in using The Tree of Life approach; which is based on narrative therapy and focuses on culture, heritage, spirituality, strengths and hope.

It is a collaborative, culturally sensitive counselling methodology that speaks to people across cultures and engages families where other therapeutic approaches might be met with resistance.
